The local area is very well served with good places for eating out. We would advise you to book ahead as they are all very popular.

The Bay Horse Pub in Burythorpe is open daily from 11.30 am serving real ale from £2.80 a pint which can be enjoyed next to an open fire. Home cooked food is served daily between  12 – 2.00 pm. Food is also available on a Tuesday and Friday evening, please ring them directly for details. Sunday lunches are a must!

Some other great pubs close by which are renowned for their excellent food and friendly atmosphere include The Blacksmiths Arms in Westow, The Stone Trough Inn situated next to Kirkham Abbey and The Jolly Farmers in Leavening.

Set in its own grounds, with picturesque views of the North Yorkshire landscape, Burythorpe House Hotel has a restaurant open to non-residents for a more intimate occasion. More importantly, its only a 5 minute walk from the cottage.

Malton which is an 8 minute drive from Burythorpe, has been named the 'county's culinary capital' after the continued success of the annual Malton Food Lovers Festival (during the last Bank Holiday weekend in May). The town has some excellent cafes/bars and restaurants including The New Malton and The Talbot Hotel.

Indian, Thai, Chinese, Italian and Mexican cuisine are also available for takeaways.

The cottage is ideally situated for exploring this area of North Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Wolds. Walks starts from the door along designated footpaths with the Wolds Way, Centenary Way and Tabular Way near by. Dalby Forest on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park offers amazing Cycle trails to suit all abilities as well as walks throughout the forest area. We are also located only a few miles from where world renowned artist David Hockney produced his vivid pictures of the Yorkshire landscape for his recent 'A Bigger Picture'exhibition at the Royal Academy. The World of James Herriot is also situated near Thirsk which is only a 40 minute drive from the village. For those visitors interested in wine, why not visit Britain's most northerly commercial vineyard situated 2 miles from the cottage, where award winning wines can be purchased.
